Eugene M. Helming, 69, Celestine

Eugene M. Helming, 69, of Celestine, passed away surrounded by family at 6:18 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Brookside Village in Jasper.

Eugene was born in Jasper, Indiana, on June 3, 1956, to Theodore and Theresa (Verkamp) Helming. 

He married Marcia Eckert on September 3, 1977, in St. Celestine Catholic Church. 

He worked for several employers, including Kimball, Leitz, and Jasper Rubber. 

He was a member of St. Isidore Parish – St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine, Indiana and the Celestine Community Club.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing cards, and watching wrestling on TV.  Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and his dog Ryder.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia Helming of Celestine; one daughter, Angela Neff (Daniel) of Jasper; two sons, Jarett Helming of Jasper and Joseph Helming (Stacy) of Celestine; four grandchildren: Dawson Neff, Brooklyn, Nicholas, and Adalyn Helming; two sisters, Ann Summers (Jerry) of Celestine and Mary Lou Sermersheim (Ralph) of Wickliffe; and one sister-in-law, Betty Helming of Celestine.

Preceding him in death, besides his parents, were two brothers: Charles and Herman Helming.  

A Mass of Christian Burial for Eugene M. Helming will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine, Indiana, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Mass time at the church on Tuesday.  The St. Isidore Parish will pray the rosary at 8:45 a.m.
