Eugene L. “Gene” Seufert, 89, Holland

Eugene L. “Gene” Seufert, 89, Holland, passed away at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at his residence.
He was born August 26, 1926, in Dubois County, Indiana to Frank and Martina (Linduar) Seufert. He married June Roesner on November 20, 1971, in Dale, Indiana.
Gene was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Holland where he served as a deacon and the Santa Claus American Legion Post #242. He also served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Nettie Brodnik.
Gene is survived by his wife, June Seufert of Holland, Ind.; two stepsons, Jan (Peggy) Schickel of Washington, Ind. and Jeff (Meagan) Schickel of Linton, Ind.; two sons, Dion (Sonya) Seufert of St. Anthony and Eugene (Mary) Seufert of St. Anthony; four daughters, Avis (Tony) Byers of Holland, Cindy (Charlie) Scherzinger, Sharlete (Don) Ulman and Dixie Denton of Huntingburg; two sisters, Esther Ballard of Oregon and Merinda (John) Pozzo of St. Louis, Mo.; three brothers, Alvin (Louella) Seufert of Holland, Walter Seufert of Fishers, Ind. and Norbert Seufert of Huntingburg; by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Eugene L. Seufert will be held at 2:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, August 21, 2016, at St. James Lutheran Church in Holland with burial at St. James Lutheran Cemetery. Pastor David Darling will officiate at the funeral. The Santa Claus American Legion Post #242 Memorial Detail will conduct military graveside rites.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday; and also at St. James Lutheran Church one hour prior to the funeral on Sunday.
