Esther M. Welp, 75

Esther M. Welp, 75, of St. Anthony, Ind. passed away at 3:20 p.m. on Monday, June 16, 2014, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.

Esther was born on November 24, 1938 in St. Henry, Indiana to Emil and Mayme (Sermersheim) Jochem. She married Harold Welp on November 8, 1958. He preceded her in death on August 22, 2003.

Esther was a waitress at the Dutchman Inn for 23 years and then retired from the Holiday Inn in 2006.

She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the St. Anthony Christian Mothers Sodality, the St. Anthony Quilters, the St. Anthony Community Center, and was a homebound communion minister.

She enjoyed quilting, gardening, cooking, and canning. She also had a love for animals and spending time with family, friends, and grandchildren.

She is survived by one daughter, Terri Vaal, and her husband Mark, of Bretzville; two sons, Keith Welp, and his wife Sharon and Jeff Welp, and his wife Janice, both of St. Anthony; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild; three sisters, Verena Nordhoff, and her husband Clarence, of Celestine, Cyrilla Knies, and her husband Albert, of Huntingburg and Lucille Dooley, and her husband Glenn, of Huntingburg; one brother, Roman Jochem, and his wife Mary Ann, of St. Henry.

Preceding her in death is her husband.

Funeral services for Esther M. Welp will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2014, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and one hour before services at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church, to Memorial Hospital in Jasper, the Dubois County Humane Society or to a favorite charity.
