Esther (Gable) Altmeyer, 76

Esther (Gable) Altmeyer, age 76, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper following a long battle with lymphoma.

She was born February 13, 1936 in Dixon Springs, Illinois to Russell and Lillian (Terry) Gable. She remained in Pope County, Illinois until the age of 11, when the family moved to Huntingburg, Indiana. Esther graduated from Huntingburg High School and Lockyear’s Business College. She then married her long-time sweetheart, Marion Altmeyer. She worked for several local businesses in secretarial positions until 1965. She then concentrated on being a mother and homemaker. Esther was a dedicated and faithful member of the Huntingburg United Methodist Church, donated time to Shared Abundance, and enjoyed outdoor work and watching the birds.

She leaves behind:

Her devoted husband of 53 years, Marion Altmeyer – Huntingburg, IN

One daughter, Melinda Midkiff – Owensboro, KY

One son, Scott Altmeyer – Huntingburg, IN

One sister, Dorothy (Gable) Fava – Westville, IL

and five grandchildren.

Funeral services for Esther Altmeyer will be held at 2:00 p.m., E.S.T., on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Huntingburg United Methodist Church (Huntingburg) with interment to follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg. Rev. Paula Young Mayberry will officiate the services.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday. Memorial gifts may be made to: Huntingburg United Methodist Church or Shared Abundance.
