Esther A. Weidenbenner, 85, Ireland

Esther A. Weidenbenner, 85, of Ireland, passed away at 6:18 p.m. on Sunday, December 27, 2015, at Brookside Village in Jasper.
Esther was born on June 15, 1930 in Spencer County, Indiana to Christian and Mary (Schaeffer) Tretter. She married John Weidenbenner on July 21, 1951 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand, IN.
She attended Dale High School. She was a co-owner with her husband and son of Weidenbenner Eggs, Inc. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, their St. Ann’s Society and the Daughters of Isabella. She was a recipient of the Brute Award. She was a past member of the German Club.
She enjoyed gardening, quilting, dancing, watching college basketball, and loved attending her grandchildren’s activities.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, John Weidenbenner of Ireland; four daughters, Jane Howard and husband Al of Gilroy, Cali., Debbie Schwenk and husband Mike of Ireland, Karen Streicher and husband Ken of Washington and Donna Schroering and husband Ken of Evansville; one son, Dennis Weidenbenner and wife Clare of Ireland; 11 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, 16 step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Irene Balbach of Haubstadt, Almeda Hopf and husband Donnie of Jasper and Alice Gilson and husband Leo of Jasper; three brothers, Linus Tretter and wife Mary Lou of Celestine, Ray Tretter and wife Betty of Ferdinand and Urban Tretter and wife Judy of Huntingburg.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
Funeral services for Esther A. Weidenbenner will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, Indiana. The St. Mary’s St. Ann’s Society and the Daughters of Isabella will pray the rosary at 1:45 p.m.
