Estel B. Houchin, 94

Estel B. Houchin, age 94, of Velpen, Indiana, passed away at 4:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at The Timbers of Jasper nursing center in Jasper, Indiana.

She was born October 23, 1919 in Pike County, Indiana to John and Amelia (Uppencamp) Smith.

She married Walter D. Houchin on August 29, 1936.

Estel was a homemaker; attended worship services at the Glezen Revival Center; and enjoyed gardening and going to church.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Walter D. Houchin, who passed away March 9, 1999; one son, Kenneth Houchin; nine brothers; three sisters; one granddaughter, Marsha Rainey; and one great grandson, Lathe Barnett.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Royce (Bobbie) Houchin of Oakland City; two daughters and two son-in-laws, Marilyn (Sam) Beadles of Velpen and Lois “Sue” (Larry) Mann of Otwell; by 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 40 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Estel B. Houchin will be held at 2:00 p.m., EST, on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Velpen. The Rev. Jerry Blackwell will officiate at the funeral service.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2-8 p.m., Friday, and also noon-2 p.m., Saturday.
