Ernest “Gene” Baxter, 83, Jasper

Ernest “Gene” Baxter, 83, of Jasper, formerly of Loogootee, passed away at 12:50 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper, Indiana.
Gene was born in Rutherford Township, Indiana, on October 18, 1933, to Ernest R. and Ethel L. (Parsons) Baxter.
He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a bus driver for Loogootee Schools, and he was also a farmer.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Baxter of Jasper; three stepdaughters, Wanda Uebelhor and her husband Rick of Jasper, Diana Klingle-Wilson and her husband Ken of Indianapolis and Kim Doty and her husband John of French Lick; several grandchildren and ggreat-grandchildren; two half-brothers, Ken Frye and his wife Sharon of Loogootee and Jerry Frye and his wife Eliane of LaQuinta, Cali.; one half-sister, Judy Purcell and her husband Glenn of Edwardsburg, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death is one half brother, Marlon Frye.
A visitation for Ernest “Gene” Baxter will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and from 11:00 a.m. until the 1:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home on Saturday.
Funeral services for Eugene “Gene” Baxter will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, IN, with burial to follow at a later date. Rev. John Simmons will officiate. The V.F.W. Post #673 will conduct military rites at the funeral home.
