Ernest B. Weyer, 89 of Ferdinand died Saturday June 2nd at 4:03 AM in Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born September 15, 1922 in Ferdinand to Albert & Philomena (Schipp) Weyer. He married Olivia M. Mehling on August 2,1947 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church and remained married to her until her death March 8, 2005. He married Theresa Ketzner on July 30, 2006 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.

Ernest was the founder of Weyer Electric Service in 1952, later to become Weyer Electric, Inc.

Ernest was a self-taught musician and played the guitar & banjo in several bands including, The Rhythm Makers, Lakeside Harmony Boys, & The Sunshine Band. He also volunteered in many area local nursing homes by playing his guitar. Ernest was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish and its St. Joseph’s Sodality. He was awarded the Brute’ Award in 2008. He was a past president of The Ferdinand Chamber of Commerce, and was grand marshall of the Ferdinand Heimatfest Celebration.

Surviving are his wife Theresa (Ketzner) Weyer.

  • Mrs. Dave (Laverne) King, Fort Branch, IN
  • Mrs. Allen (Brenda) Erny, Jasper

Three step-sons,

  • Joe Ketzner, Ferdinand
  • Mike Ketzner, Cynthiana, IN
  • Brian Ketzner, Jasper

Four step-daughters,

  • Paula Wheeler, Jasper
  • Luann Lackner, South Bend, IN
  • Joan Lange, Ferdinand
  • Amy Ketzner, Evansville

One sister, Evelyn Weyer of Ferdinand.

22 grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Wilfred Weyer.

Funeral services 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday and 7:00 to 9:30 a.m., Wednesday at the Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand.
