Ernest A. Lange, 85

Ernest A. Lange, 85 of Ferdinand, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville. He was born August 25, 1928 in Ferdinand to Herman & Ida (Begle) Lange.

Ernest was retired from Indiana Desk in Jasper. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 124. Ernest was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish. He was an avid woodworker, gardener, and he loved growing flowers.

Survivors include his companion, Virlee Gunselman of Ferdinand; two sisters, Lastie Carl of New Albany and Mrs. Linus (Bernita) Metz of St. Anthony; three brothers, Richard Lange and his wife Aleene, Norman Lange and his wife Sharon, and Donald Hoppenjans and his wife Ann, all of Ferdinand.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Alfred “Shorty” Lange, and one sister, Hermina Hoppenjans.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. Burial following with military graveside rites by Ferdinand American Legion Post 124. Friends may call from 2 to 8:00 p.m. Friday and 7 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ferdinand Parish.
