Ermilda F. Gehlhausen, 87
Ermilda F. Gehlhausen, age 87, of Jasper, passed away at 9:10 p.m. on Tuesday (November 12, 2013) at Northwood Good Samaritan Retirement Community in Jasper, IN.
Ermilda was born at Adyeville, Indiana on December 24, 1925 to Hilbert and Verena (Wilmes) Egler. She married Otto Gehlhausen on July 28, 1948 at the St. Meinrad Archabbey. He preceded her in death on December 9, 1993.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Holy Family Blessed Virgin Sodality.
She was the assistant and head cook at Holy Family School from 1973-1991, and a member of the church quilting committee for many years.
She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Duncan and her husband Larry, of Indianapolis and Janice Gehlhausen and her husband Mark Schafer, of Carmel, IN; three sons, Mel Gehlhausen and his wife Martha, of St. Anthony, Randy Gehlhausen and his wife Pam, of Jasper, and Jerry Gehlhausen and his wife Lisa, of Jasper; 13 grandchildren; Lance, Cheryl, Ryan, Jan, Jill, April, Brooke, B.J., Bridget, Bradley, Brayden, Antonia, and Monica; nine great grandchildren; five brothers, Silvanus Egler and wife Darlene, of Payson, Ariz., Harold Egler and wife Joyce, of Loudon, Tenn., Ambrose Egler of Holland, Mich., Cyril Egler and wife Bonnie, of Huntingburg, and Jim Egler and wife Doris, of Jasper.
Preceding her in death is one sister – Sr. Virlee Egler OSB.
Funeral services for Ermilda Gehlhausen will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday (November 16, 2013) at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.
Friends may call from 3:30-8:00 p.m. on Friday (November 15, 2013), at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel and one hour before services at church.
Rosary will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday by the Blessed Virgin Sodality at the funeral home.
