Enhancing communication across the SW Dubois County School district
At the September meeting of the Board of Trustees, Data Communications Specialist Amber Bolling presented changes the district has implemented to better communicate with all stakeholders. By embracing new platforms and being intentional in outreach, SWDCS strives to build trust and ensure that every voice is heard.
The largest change has been the implementation of an innovative communication platform, ParentSquare, that streamlines information and provides instant notifications and alerts for emergencies such as school closings or delays. The platform includes instant messaging, event notifications, form responses, and easy access to essential documents (including grade cards), ensuring that parents and students stay informed in real-time.
The district is also increasing its use of various social media platforms to share updates, celebrate achievements, and engage with the community. One challenge is to ensure that all communications are accessible to every family (regardless of their primary language), so the district is focusing on including translations and alternative formats. The district strives to provide regular updates and consistent messaging to help build trust and reliability with all stakeholders.
Another exciting addition to the district communication plan is the changes in how Southridge HS Athletics is being promoted. New additions for this year include Senior Video Spotlights and increased reporting of scheduled games and results. Other exciting changes coming soon include Digital Sports Programs that can be scanned upon entry to an event and real-time live scoring updates during an event.
SW Dubois County Schools’ Superintendent, Chip Mehaffey, commented, “By being intentional in our outreach, we can create a more connected and engaged community. It is our goal that every stakeholder feels valued and informed. These changes enhance our ability to share all of the wonderful things happening in our district daily. We look forward to sharing our story with the SW Dubois community in unique and exciting ways moving forward.”
