Alex Emmons announced he is seeking the Democratic Party nomination for one of the two at-large council positions of the Jasper Common Council.

“I want to see this great city grow and prosper. Jasper has always been a terrific city to raise a family, work, and for small and large businesses,” Emmons said. “There are many proposals being presented to help Jasper grow and change for the future. I would like to be a part of those reviews and help steer this community as these crucial decisions are made.”

“While not all proposals can be done at one time and as they are presented, they all need to be on the table and discussed,” he continued. “From my past service on the Jasper Utilities Service, I believe I have shown myself to be pragmatic, open minded and one who has been willing to work with all Board members, the City Administration, and the Common Council.”

Emmons was born and grew up in Marion, Indiana, graduating from Marion High School in 1965. He then attended Indiana University in Bloomington and received his B.S degree in Business Management and Administration in June 1969.

After enlisting in the U.S .Air Force Reserves as a Medical Service Technician, he continued a 30 year career resulting in his retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant in 2002.  He moved his family to Jasper in 1990 when he took a position as Director of Materials Management at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. Emmons retired in Sept. 2013 after almost 24 years and now works part-time at Siebert’s Clothing.

“Having had a career that revolved around budgets, I have continued with the thought that we need to live within our fiscal means,”Emmons said. “If elected, that is what I will continue to do. I also want to work with the various local development commissions and groups with their ideas on how to move our great community forward.”

As a believer in contributing back to the community, Emmons has been long time member of the Jasper Lions Club and has served as president. He has served as coach, board member, and president of the Jasper Youth Soccer League. He helped start the traveling soccer program in 1990 and served as the first coach of the U-14 team. Emmons was instrumental in starting the Southern Indiana Soccer League with other Southwestern communities. He was also the assistant varsity coach for the first Jasper High School Girls Soccer Team.

Emmons was appointed to the Jasper Utilities Service Board in 2005 and is currently the Waste Water Commissioner. He also served on the Jasper Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee in 2009-10.

Emmons resides at 876 Crestwood Drive in Jasper with his wife Mickie. They have five children and 12 grandchildren.

He and his wife are members of Holy Family Catholic Church where he serves as an usher and a member the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

“I would like to see Jasper as a city of destination for others to move to work and raise their families,” he said.
