Elvera M. Gress, 100

Elvera M. Gress, 100, of Jasper, passed away at 4:20 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.
Elvera was born in St. Henry, IN on December 22, 1914 to John and Frederica (Weyer) Fleck. She married Edgar Gress on July 23, 1934 in Evansville, IN. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1989.
Elvera retired as the vice-president of customer service for Dubois County Bank on the square in Jasper. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper and its St. Ann’s Society. She was a graduate of the Jasper High School Class of 1932. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, working crossword puzzles, playing cards, and was an IU Basketball, Indiana Pacers, and Cincinnati Red’s baseball fan.
She is survived by her son, William Gress and his wife Robin of Bloomington; one sister, Anne Amelia Born of Indianapolis; niece and caretaker, Ruth Ann Guthery of Jasper; nephew, John Hoffman and his wife JoRean of Jasper; other nephews and nieces.
Preceding her in death besides her husband were four sisters: Laura Rasche, Theresa Hoffman, Lenora Horstmeyer and Marie Fleck; and four brothers, Raymond, Clarence, and Dennis Fleck, and infant Joseph Fleck.
Funeral services for Elvera Gress will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum.
Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.
