Elsie “Irene” Elliott, 93, Loogootee
Elsie “Irene” Elliott, 93, of Loogootee, passed away at 4:18 P.M. on Saturday, September 26, 2026, in Jasper, surrounded by her family.
She was born on September 25, 1933, in Alfordsville, Indiana to Eslie E. and Luna Marie (Hawkins) Buzan.
Irene graduated from Alfordsville High School, Class of 1953. She worked at Vonnegut’s in Indianapolis, Indiana and then went on to retire from RCA in Bloomington, Indiana.
Irene married James C. “Curt” Elliott on December 26, 1953, and he preceded her in death on December 29, 2016.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Irene enjoyed the simple things in life, playing the piano, tending to her flower garden, hunting mushrooms, crocheting, quilting and sewing. Most of all, Irene loved spending time with her grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. The memories she made with her family will be treasured and carried on in their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, James C. Elliott Jr.; great-granddaughter, Madison Raeanne Allbright; her daughter-in-law, Debbie Elliott; and was the last of her siblings, Gladys (Jay) Brown, Laura (Robert) Miller, Thomas (Doris) Buzan, and Ruby (John) Dicks.
She is survived by her children, Constance (Charles) Allbright, and Dennis R. Elliott (Karen Schuster); grandchildren, Clint Allbright (Jennifer Altmeyer), Maranda Allbright (Van West), and Misty (Jonanthan) Sanders; great-grandchildren, Patrick Allbright, Carlette (Braulio) Morris, Nakisha McKee, Victoria (Ben) Belitz, Heather McKee, Veronica McKee, and Rayden Sanders; great-great-grandchildren, Athena, Naomi, Axel, Jarad, Sebastian, and Asher; sisters-in-law, Mary Louise Elliott, Rita Elliott, Donna Vanwinkle, and Debbie Elliott; brother-in-law, Mike Elliott; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, at St. Martin Catholic Church in Whitfield, Indiana. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Martin Church in Whitfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Martin Cemetery or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Irene Elliott.
