Ellene K. Schmitt, 79, Haysville

Ellene K. Schmitt, 79, Haysville, passed away at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

She was born at Haysville, Indiana on August 6, 1939.  She married Richard “Dick” Schmitt on November 17, 1962, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville, Indiana.  He preceded her in death on February 16, 2018.

Ellene was a homemaker and member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville. She also was a member of the Haysville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed doing child care for 32 years from infants to elementary school age.

She was a graduate of Alfordsville High School Class of 1958.

Her hobbies were playing cards (Rum) and quilting. She loved canning her 114-day pickles and feeding and watching the wildlife around her home.

She is survived by her son, Jeff Schmitt of Haysville; daughter, Amy (Kent) Beckman of Dubois; grandson, Anthony Schmitt of Haysville; brother, Clifford (Jean) Mauder of Haysville.

Funeral services for Ellene Schmitt will be held at noon, Sunday, October 28, 2018, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville, with burial to follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.  Rev. Tim Holt will officiate.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or to a favorite charity.
