Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Rohleder, 89, Ireland

Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Rohleder was born in Ireland, Ind., on May 26, 1934. She passed away on January 10, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. Last rites were performed by Fr. Ambrose Wonyanyi at her bedside with many of her brothers and sisters present.

A funeral Mass will be held at St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Newburgh on February 3, 2024, at 11 a.m. CST. The Mass will be live-streamed on the church website “www.sjbnewburgh.org”. Interment will take place at Shiloh Cemetery in Ireland. 

Betty graduated from Ireland High School in Ireland in 1952. After attending Evansville’s Lockyear Business College, she moved to Columbus, OH. After several years in Columbus, she moved to Forest Hills, N.Y., where she became an administrative assistant to executives with Time Warner and Credit Suisse bank in Manhattan. Betty returned to college and received a Bachelor of Arts from Marymount Manhattan College in 1997. After 52 years in the Big Apple, Betty relocated to Melbourne, Fla., for 10 years and finally came home to Indiana in June 2022. 

Betty enjoyed ballroom dancing, Broadway plays and the bustling life of New York City. She excelled at needlepoint and photography and took several overseas trips to see the world, including many trips to Hawaii.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Marie (Wehr) Rohleder, her sister-in-law, Lois (Folz) Rohleder; her brother, Sylvester Rohleder; sister and brother-in-law, Irma and Terry Friedman.

She is survived by her sisters, Mary Bohnert and MaDonna (Lloyd) Taylor of Newburgh, Agnes (Brian) Kelly of Kissimmee, Fla., Barbara (Richard) Weisman, and sister-in-law, Linda (Sermersheim) Rohleder of Jasper; her brothers, Maurice Rohleder of Carmel, Dennis (Carolyn) Rohleder and Stephen (Mary) Rohleder of Jasper.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Ascension St. Vincent Evansville Foundation, 3700 Washington Avenue, Evansville, IN 47714.
