Elfrieda R. Howe, age 83 of Jasper passed away at 12:00 p.m. at her home on Monday (January 30, 2012) in Jasper.

She was born on February 26, 1928 in Jasper to Alois and Esther (Buechlein) Hasenour. She married Charles “Chick” Howe 0n December 17, 1966, he preceded her in death on June 8, 1977.

Elfrieda worked in retail sales including a greeter at WalMart in Jasper.

She is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

Surviving,

Four sons,

  • Tom Messmer and spouse Mary, Santa Claus, IN
  • Mike Messmer and spouse Jane, Toledo, OH
  • Steve Messmer and spouse Andrea, Jasper,IN
  • Terry Messmer and spouse Jackie, Stendal, IN

11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

One sister, Virginia Wininger, Jasper, IN

One brother, William Hasenour, Jasper, IN

Preceding her in death besides her husband is one son, Dan Messmer and two brothers, Denny and James Hasenour.

Funeral services for Elfrieda Howe will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday (February 1, 2012) in St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

Private visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the 1:00 p.m. service time at Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
