Election Board sends Library bond question on to Department of Local Government Finance for wording approval

The County Election Board conducted their monthly meeting today. Among the items on the agenda was the question of the ballot wording  for the library bond that voters in Bainbridge and Madison Townships will vote on in November.

The wording on the ballot has to go through several stages to be approved and may require some revision by the Library Board. Today was the first stage since the Library Board approved the bond question being on the ballot. The Election Board reviewed the wording and heard from Bill Sheneyfelt (attorney for the Library Board) and Bill Hughet, president of the Library Board, concerning the question and the process involved.

Sheneyfelt explained that the question needed to be approved by August 1 or it would not make it on the ballot for this November. He also expressed that he would like to have the question back before the Election Board on its July 5 meeting. According to Sheneyfelt the Department of Local Government Finance had ten days to approve the wording on the ballot after the Election Board’s initial approval.

The Election Board approved the continuance of the proposed bond question and it is now forwarded to the Department of Local Government Finance. It will be reviewed and sent back to the Election Board, who will then forward it to the County Auditor for approval and then return to the Election Board for the final approval.
