Elbert Donald “Don” Burton, 82

Elbert Donald “Don” Burton, 82, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 12:52 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2015, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.
He was born November 28, 1932 in Owensboro, Kentucky, to Elbert B. and Edna C. (Jones) Burton. He married Ida Catherine Harker on September 7, 1955 at St. John’s Church in Boone Township.
Don was owner of Burton’s Cafeteria, Burton’s Catering and Burton’s Caper House. He also worked as a Dubois County dumpster site attendant. Don was a member of the Holland American Legion, lifetime member of the Southern Indiana Leathernecks, and the Indiana National Guard. He served in Japan during the Korean War as a Private First Class in the United States Marine Corps. Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and barbecuing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Catherine “Cathy” Burton, who passed away July 31, 2008; and one granddaughter, Leah Burton.
He is survived by four sons and three daughter-in-laws, Mike (Dede) Burton of Huntingburg, Dave Burton of Huntingburg, Brian (Jan) Burton of O’Fallon, Mo., and John (Angela) Burton of Huntingburg; by seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Don Burton will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Holland American Legion Memorial Detail and the United States Marine Corps Funeral Detail.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday. A Marine Corps League memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.
