Eileen Schaefer, 88, St. Meinrad

Eileen Schaefer, 88 of St. Meinrad, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Scenic Hills at the Monastery in Ferdinand.

Eileen was born March 9, 1934, in New Boston to Pius and Anna (Kleiser) Boehm.

She married Alfred Schaefer on May 16, 1953, in New Boston. Alfred preceded her in death on April 29, 2011.

Eileen was a member of St. Meinrad Catholic Church. She was a former member of Ladies Sodality and St. Elizabeth Society. She was a cook at St. Meinrad Archabbey.

Eileen enjoyed gardening, bird watching, cooking and raising chickens.

She is survived by three sons, Kent (Lynne) Schaefer of Ferdinand, Randall (Doris) Schaefer and Brian Schaefer, both of St. Meinrad; two daughters, Janice (Jeff) Welp of St. Anthony and Diane (Patrick) Hoffman of St. Meinrad; a sister, Betty (Larry) Hanselman of Jasper; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren with two on the way and six step-great-grandchildren.

Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; brothers, Wilfred and Nestor Boehm and sisters, Edna Meunier and Maxine Waninger.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Central Tuesday, May 31, 2022, in St. Meinrad Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will beT uesday at the church from 9:00 a.m. CT until the time of services.
