Dale — A family of eight was displaced in a house fire that destroyed a two-story home on Medcalf Street in Dale this morning.

Members of the Carter Township, Santa Claus, and Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the two-story home at 205 E. Medcalf Street at 6:55 a.m. EST.

Dave Walden, the owner of the home, lived there with his son, Johnathan Walden. With them were James and Rebecca Long and their five children.

A smoke detector in the home alerted them of fire and they were able to exit the home without any injuries. According to authorities, the fire may have been caused by a space heater.
