Edwin Rinehart, 86, Santa Claus

Edwin Rinehart, 86, of Santa Claus, passed away at 8:58 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at his residence.

He was born on March 11, 1940, in Princeton, Indiana, to Edwin Fairbanks and Marie (Grace) Rinehart.

On March 11, 1962, he married the love of his life, Joe Ann Vandiver, in Henderson, Kentucky.

Ed was a faithful member of Santa Claus Christian Church. He was also actively involved in his community as a member of Santa Claus American Legion Post #242 and the Santa Claus Optimist Club. In addition, he proudly served as a board member and treasurer of the Santa Claus Museum. Ed enjoyed golfing, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He cherished the moments shared with those he loved and will be remembered for his dedication to both his family and community.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joe Ann Rinehart, who passed away on July 14, 2023; and two sisters, Mary Jo Swader and Sue Hughes.

He is survived by one son, Richard J. (Patty) Rinehart of Austin, Texas; one daughter, Kelly A. (Steve) Teinert of Altus, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Tristan, James, Zach, Caitlin and Norah; and by one great-granddaughter, Kacey JoAnn.

A memorial service for Edwin Rinehart will be held at a later date. Rainey Funeral Home in Dale has been entrusted with handling the arrangements.
