Edwin F. Fischer, 91, Jasper

Edwin F. Fischer, 91, of Jasper, passed away at 9:10 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, at The Waters of Huntingburg in Huntingburg.

Edwin was born in Siberia, Indiana, on July 18, 1935, to Hugo and Catherine (Schaefer) Fischer. 

He married Evelyn L. Vonderheide on August 10, 1957, at St. Jospeh’s Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana.  She preceded him in death on February 14, 2019.

He served in the United States Army. He worked for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years. Over the years, he carried and delivered every route in Jasper. After retirement from the Postal Service, he worked part-time at the Jasper Herald.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, IN, Jasper Outdoor Recreation, and the Jasper Moose.

Edwin enjoyed woodworking, camping, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are one daughter, Brenda (Bernie) Wirthwein, Huntingburg, IN, and one son, Steve (Sally) Fischer, Jasper, IN, eight grandchildren, 11 grandchildren, and one sister-in-law, Cora Fischer, Bristow, IN.

Preceding him in death, besides his wife, are one son, Mike Fischer, one sister, Maryetta Mendel, and three brothers, Otto “Ots”, Hubert “Hubie” and James Fischer.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Edwin F. Fischer will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 12, 2026, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, Ind., with burial to follow in Enlow Cemetery in Jasper.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Mass will be held at the church on Monday, October 12, 2026.
