Edward Schmidt, 79
Edward Schmidt, age 79, of Jasper passed away at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper, Indiana.
Edward was born on December 18, 1933 in Port Oneida, Michigan to John and Ruby (Riggs) Schmidt. He married Marcia Jones on June 16, 1962 in Greenville MI. She preceded him in death on May 5, 2013.
Edward was a Army Veteran who served in Germany during the Korean War.
He was a teacher who taught for 36 year in the Greenville, Stanton, and Mount Pleasant School Districts in Michigan. He also coached the basketball and track teams.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mount Pleasant, MI. He was a board member of the Veterans Memorial Library in Mount Pleasant, and served on the board for the Isabella Child Development Council.
He enjoyed woodworking, dogs, walking, and spending time in the outdoors.
He is survived by daughters, Cynthia Schmidt and her husband John Moilanen, of Interlochen, Mich., and Lynn Willems, and her husband Luther, of Jasper, Ind.; sons, Kip Schmidt and wife Christine, of Clearwater, Fla., Kurt Schmidt and wife Donna, Rio Rancho, N.M.; and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death besides his wife is one brother, Lyle Schmidt, and three sisters; June Ransom, Alice Noonan, and Betty Garthe.
A Memorial Service for Edward Schmidt will be held at a later date in Mount Pleasant Mich. There will be no services at Becher-Kluesner Funeral Home in Jasper.
