Edward Joseph Schmidt, 74, Gresham, Ore.

Edward Joseph Schmidt, 74, died on July 21, 2017, in Gresham, Oregon.

Ed was born August 11, 1942, in Jasper. He graduated from Jasper High School in 1960. Ed enlisted in the Air Force in 1961, then moved to the National Guard at the end of his four-year active duty, retiring in 1999. He worked for the USPS for 20 years. Ed and his wife Judy celebrated their 21st anniversary in June.

Ed loved traveling with friends and family. He was an active member of the Loyal Order of the Moose at the East Portland Lodge.

Ed is survived by his wife, Judy Schmidt; sons, Brent and Eric of Portland, Oregon; stepdaughters, Tamara (Sean) Flannagan and Lynnette (Greg) Sander of Gresham, Oregon; six grandchildren; siblings, Elaine Humbert, Marjorie Wagner, Tom Schmidt, Eugene Schmidt, Kenneth Schmidt, Mary Mehringer, Mark Schmidt, David Schmidt and Anne Edds, all in Indiana; and  brother, Gerald Schmidt in West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by parents, Roman and Veronica Schmidt; and siblings, James Schmidt and Barbara Hoffman, all from Jasper.

The interment ceremony was at 11 a.m. on August 10, 2017, at Willamette National Cemetery.
