Eddie “Dale” Eckert, age 73, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 10:40 p.m., Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Professional Care Rehabilitation Center in Dale, Indiana.

He was born May 30, 1940 in Eaton, Ohio.

He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Steffen on June 29, 1963 at the First Pentecostal Church of Birdseye and served in the United States Army from 1963-1965.

Dale was a furniture finish-craftsman employed at Executive Furniture and Styline Corp. for a total of 42 years.

He was a former fire chief of the Birdseye Volunteer Fire Department; a former member of the board of directors for the Four Rivers Craft Show; and loved attending craft shows and flea markets.

Dale was preceded in death by: his mother, Minnie Elizabeth Eckert.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Eckert, of Huntingburg, IN; one daughter, Carla Michelle “Missy” Eckert, of Huntingburg, IN; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Todd Eckert, of Shoals, IN, Brian Eckert, of Washington, IN, and Bret (spouse: Erica) Eckert, of Birdseye, IN; one sister, Linda Julian, of Casstown, OH; one brother, Garhardt Rohlman, of Stevensville, MT; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services for Eddie “Dale” Eckert will be held at 2:00 p.m. EDT on Monday, October 21, 2013 at the First Pentecostal Church in Birdseye with burial to follow at the Mentor Cemetery near Birdseye. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail. The Rev. Bret Eckert and Rev. Jerry Cottrell will officiate at the funeral.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday and also at the First Pentecostal Church in Birdseye from 1:00-2:00 p.m., on Monday, prior to the funeral.

A memorial service will be held by the Birdseye Volunteer Fire Department at 6:00 p.m., Sunday evening at the funeral home. Condolences and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.nassandson.com.
