Early voting starts Wednesday

With over 41 percent of registered voters casting votes in this year’s primary, the County Clerk’s Office is expecting a huge turnout Election Day.

Before then though, registered voters can vote early in person starting Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Early voting at the courthouse will continue until Friday, Nov. 4. Voters can cast their ballots Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Voters can also vote at the courthouse Saturday, October 29 and November 5 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. as well as Monday, November 7 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Additional sites and times:

The Jasper 35th Street Fire Station at 118 35th Street will be an absentee voting site open Monday, October 31 to Friday, November 4 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. as well as Saturday, October 29 and Saturday, November 5 from 8 a.m. to noon.

The Huntingburg Event Center at 200 E. 14th Street, the Ferdinand Community Center at 1710 Community Drive and the Dubois Library at 5506 Main Street will be absentee voting sites on Saturday, October 29 and Saturday, November 5 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Other satellite absentee voting sites will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. the following days: St. Henry Fire Station, 1211 W. County Road 1100S, on Monday, October 31; Birdseye Fire Station, 9 W. First St., on Tuesday, November 1; Schnellville Fire Station, 8090 E. Schnellville Road, on Wednesday, November 2; Haysville Fire Station, 177 W. State Road 56, on Thursday, November 3; and Dubois Library on Friday, November 4

Registered voters can vote early at any of the sites listed.

Mail-in absentee ballots must be requested by 11:59 p.m. Monday, October 31. The deadline to apply for voting absentee before the travel board is noon Monday, Nov. 7. Applications are available at the clerk’s office at the courthouse or at http://www.indianavoters.com.

Tuesday (tomorrow) is the deadline to register to vote or to update voter registration information. Forms can be turned into the county clerk’s office until 4 p.m. They can also be mailed and postmarked by Tuesday. Online registration must be completed by 11:59 p.m. Tuesday.

Jasper Library Referendum
Voters in all Bainbridge, Boone-Jasper and Madison-Jasper North and South are being asked to allow the Jasper Library to issue bonds to build a new library. The referendum question will read “Shall Jasper Public Library issue bonds or enter into a lease to finance the construction of and improvements to a facility for use as the Jasper Public Library building, which is estimated to cost not more than $6,500,000 and is estimated to increase the property tax rate for debt service by a maximum of $0.0595 per $100 of assessed value?”

Northeast Dubois County School Corporation Referendum
Voters in Columbia, Hall, Harbison and Marion townships are being asked to allow the Northeast Dubois County School Corporation to increase funding for the school. The referendum question will appear on the ballot as “For the seven (7) calendar years immediately following the holding of the referendum, shall the Northeast Dubois County School Corporation impose a property tax rate that does not exceed eighteen cents (0.18) on each one hundred dollars ($100) of assessed valuation and that is in addition to all other property taxes imposed by the school corporation for the purpose of funding course options required for graduation, class sizes, extracurricular activities, and compensation for employees who provide educational programs?”
