Earl Bartelt, 85

Earl W. Bartelt, age 85, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 12:55 p.m., Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at The Waters of Huntingburg.

He was born January 29, 1926 on the family farm south of Huntingburg to George Amos and Anna C. (Peters) Bartelt. He was a lifelong member of Salem United Church of Christ where he was baptized on March 7, 1926 and confirmed on April 2, 1939 by

Rev. Theo Schmacher.

During his youth he attended school at Holland and assisted his family with the farm work. In 1953 he entered the United States Army for a two year tour of duty in Germany. In 1955 he returned to the farm and was later employed by the Timely Furniture Company in Huntingburg until its closure. He then found employment at the Jasper Engine Exchange, where he retired following 25 years with the company.

Retirement allowed him to return to the country life which he enjoyed so much. He was a member of the Holland American Legion and the Huntingburg V.F.W. Post #2366. He was preceded in death by his parents.

One brother and sister-in-law:

  • Leroy (spouse: Carolyn) Bartelt – Huntingburg, IN

One grandson:

  • Preston Adams – San Jose, California.

Funeral services for Earl Bartelt will be held at 11:00 a.m., Eastern Daylight Time, on Friday, August 26th at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery (Huntingburg). The Rev. Don Giesmann will officiate the service. The V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail will conduct military graveside rites.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 3:00-8:00 p.m., on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to: VistaCare Hospice or Salem United Church of Christ.
