Dubois REC and Jasper Public Library team up
Jasper — The Jasper Public Library now makes it easy to find out how much it costs to run a home appliance and which appliances are using energy even when they’re switched off. The Jasper Public Library and Dubois Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. have teamed up to make “Kill A Watt” home energy meters available to library cardholders.
Library patrons can borrow a Kill A Watt device with a library card, just like a book or DVD. Plug it into an electrical outlet and find out how much it’s costing to run refrigerators, computers, TVs and other home appliances.
The Kill A Watt meter measures the electric consumption of small to medium household electronic devices and appliances, and can even help discover which appliances use electricity even when turned off. The meter also calculates cost and forecasts costs by the week, month and year.
“Offering these meters is something we wanted to do for our members and our community so they can be informed how they use electricity and how they can make changes and save money,” said Manager of Member Services John Keusch.
In addition to the Jasper Public Library, Kill A Watt meters are also available at the Birdseye, Dubois, Ferdinand, Huntingburg and English Libraries.
