Dubois Democratic Party holds reorganization meeting virtually
Mikayla Granados of Jasper, the first Hispanic officer of either the Democratic or Republican Parties in Dubois County history, was re-elected Vice-Chairperson of the County Democratic Party, according to a filing Monday, March 8, 2021, with the State Democratic Party.
The required filing was made public today by Dubois County Democratic Chair Mike Kendall.
Ms. Granados was originally elected vice-chair in December 2019 to fill a vacancy left by resignation. Ms. Granados, who was challenged by Beth Waltz, led all candidates in votes, said Kendall, who also was re-elected.
“I appreciate the welcoming support I received from the new DuCoDem Party,” said Granados, a pre-law student at St. Mary’s in Terre Haute.
“My re-election shows the county is changing and the Democratic Party shares power with the diverse population of Dubois County.”
The election was held by Zoom because of the COVID. Each ballot was cast by private chat with former Chairperson Joe Huddleston and verified by former Chairperson Gary Eck.
Former State Senator Mike Kendall was also re-elected Dubois County chairperson. Brenda Gramelspacher of Ferdinand was elected treasurer and Deborah Major also of Ferdinand was elected as Secretary.
“My goal for the next four years is to better everyone’s life in our County and help pay back this community for the faith, family, education, and career I was blessed to have,” said Kendall.
The Eighth District Virtual 2021 County Reorganization was held Thursday, March 4, 2021, the first in the state. The results were not filed with the state until Monday, March 8, or made public until today, Tuesday March 9 according to Chair Kendall.
Virtual reorganization meetings will be held for the Congressional Districts and the State Democratic Party on Saturdays, March 13 and March 20 respectively, said Kendall. Party Reorganizations are held every four years, he added, and the next reorganization will occur in 2025.
