Dubois County-wide professional educator development day to take place Friday

On Friday, November 1, 2024, educators from all four county schools will come together for a dynamic Professional Development Day. There will be no school for students on this day.

This collaborative event will bring educators from the Greater Jasper Consolidated School Corporation, Northeast Dubois County School Corporation, Southeast Dubois County School Corporation, and Southwest Dubois County School Corporation together.

Jasper High School is the venue for this event. Attendees will gather in the gymnasium before dispersing to various breakout sessions throughout the school.

The breakout sessions are designed to cater to diverse educational needs, covering topics such as literacy, STEM, English Learners, Special Education, Early Learning, the integration of Artificial Intelligence in education, and the exploration of student opportunities on college campuses. There will be valuable sessions for all educators.

Indiana Teacher of the Year, Eric Jenkins will be attending and presenting, along with many other specialists from the Indiana Department of Education. The keynote speaker for the day is Dr. Terrance Scott from the University of Louisville. Dr. Scott is a Professor, Distinguished Scholar, and Director for the Center of Instructional and Behavioral Research in Schools.

“The Educate Dubois County Professional Development event is a really unique opportunity, bringing together teachers from all four of the public school districts in Dubois County. Collaboration and networking, sharing expertise and insight, and continuing to develop professionally is vital to the education profession. The Educate Dubois County planning committee is excited to have experts from various agencies joining us on November 1, from IDOE specialists to the 2024 Indiana Teacher of the Year to AI experts. We anticipate a dynamic day of professional learning” noted Tina Fawks, GJCS Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.
