Dubois County Substance Abuse Council awarded grant applications

The Dubois County Substance Abuse Council (SAC) under the direction and approval of Indiana Criminal Justice Institute awarded the September 2012 grant applications. The Governor’s Commission mandates SAC to provide funding in three categories: Treatment/Intervention, Prevention/Education, and Law Enforcement/Justice. Grants are awarded in March and September. For September the SAC executive council awarded grant applications in the Treatment/Intervention category to Crisis Connection for crisis intervention services and TRI-CAP for substance abuse counseling. In the Prevention/Education category the grants awarded were to Brosmer House for educational materials, Forest Park Jr./Sr. High for drug screens, Dubois County Probation for media information and education, Dubois County Community Corrections for SAMSHA anger program, and TRI-CAP for substance abuse assessments. And in the Law Enforcement/Justice category grants were awarded to Indiana State Police for K-9 dog kennel, Dubois County Sheriff for tasers, and Jasper Police Department for breathalyzer data support.

The funds the council awards for the programs are derived from countermeasure fees that are assessed by the Dubois County courts to alcohol and drug offenders as part of the court costs. The SAC meets the second Tuesday of every month at 11:00 a.m. in the backroom of Shoney’s restaurant in Jasper. The public is invited to attend. The mission of SAC is to reduce the problems associated with substance abuse in Dubois County in order to enhance family and community life.
