Dubois County Soil and Water announces new project manager
The Dubois County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisors announce Del Fuhrman as their newly hired Project Manager.
The position was previously held by Mike Smith who moved to the Lafayette area in late spring.
Del is a Jasper native and Purdue Ag Engineering graduate. He has spent most of his career life in many different places in the United States designing and manufacturing farm equipment, lawn and garden equipment, bicycles, and bus seating for public transportation. He has also worked in quality improvement management and training systems and later as a consultant for manufacturing and machining businesses in the Dubois County area.
Since retiring, he has moved back to the family farm and continues to be involved in various agriculture aspects and water conservation. Del brings program knowledge and experience with project management to the SWCD.
He is excited about working in conjunction with Vincennes University Jasper Campus on the technical and educational aspects of the Land Stewardship Initiative (LSI).
Some of his duties on the LSI project will be: a) coordinating with VUJC Land Stewardship Initiative Steering Committee and Dubois County SWCD to complete general operations on Vincennes University Campus; b) responsible for management and administration of Land Stewardship Initiative activities; c) responsible for promotional materials for the Land Stewardship Initiative; d) assist with SWCD grant funded programs; e) assist in coordinating technical tours, workshops, and programs for land users interested in improving soil, water, and related natural resources; f) explain the application of conservation practices and how they improve soil and water quality to land users and other interested audiences; g) provides soil conservation information for agricultural, residential, and/or commercial development to customers as requested.
Del joined the SWCD staff in early July.
