Dubois County Recorder warning public of property tax scam

Dubois County Recorder Jackie McPherron reported a scam her office was made aware of recently.
According to McPherron, a Dubois County resident received an official-looking document labeled “Tax Investigation”.
The document alleges the recipient is the subject of an investigation by the State of Indiana and that the state intends to seize their assets and property. The document alleges the resident owes thousands of dollars in taxes and that there is a lien filed in the Dubois County Recorder’s office.
If anyone receives this notice, they are asked to call the county recorder’s office or the Indiana Attorney General’s office at 317-232-6201.
The Attorney General’s office has been notified and verified this is a scam.
Residents are being warned to not pay any money to this organization and to notify the Attorney General’s office if they receive one of these letters.
