Dubois County Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Program seeking contractors

The county is seeking contractors to submit bids for the repairs identified in local homes selected as part of Dubois County’s Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation program.

Dubois County and the City of Jasper, with matching funding through the Hoosier Enduring Legacy Plan, have partnered and applied a portion of the American Rescue Act funding they received in 2021 to create grants for this program. Through the program, $700,000 has been made available for housing repairs.

The county and city are working with Jenny Mathies, Housing Administrator at Indiana 15 Regional Planning Commission, to administer the program.

According to Matheis, they sent out 350 applications and, from those returned, selected the first 40 homes from throughout the county, with most being in Jasper and Huntingburg. Since then, the selected homes have been inspected, and radon tests are now underway. In all, nine have been completed and included in the bid package.

Dubois County is creating a bidder’s list for its Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Program, and contractors can have their names placed on this list for the rest of the homes.

A meeting will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 9:30 AM at the Dubois County Annex Conference Room, 602 Courthouse Square, Jasper. Any contractor interested in bidding on this program is encouraged to attend.

Bids are due October 4, 2024, by 4:00 pm.

Contractors wanting more information can contact Matheis by phone at 812-367-8455 or email at JMatheis@Ind15rpc.org.

According to Matheis, with the overwhelming response from homeowners, the county is no longer sending out new applications for the program but will continue to accept applications from those who have been sent one in the past.

Once work on the first 40 homes is complete, the county will compare available funding to homes that have applied and will work their way through the remaining applications.
