Dubois County Museum opens “Main Street Dubois County”

The newest exhibit at the Dubois County Museum called “Main Street Dubois County” isn’t really that new as the talk started in 2006 and work on the exhibit began in 2008. But it enjoyed a robust turnout of several hundred Sunday afternoon with a ribbon cutting fit for a one-of-a-kind grand opening.

Tom Kellams an his daughter, Cheryl Sermersheim were on hand and Museum Board of Directors President Jim Hagedorn thanked them and all the other donors who gave their time to complete the project.

Jasper Mayor Terry Seitz commented, “It seems a museum has three primary purposes: when you’re my age at 55 and above you reflect back and you think ‘things I had as a kid are now in a museum.’ And then you think as a grandfather, which I am, ‘my goodness, my grandkids can see how things worked for generations passed’,” Seitz continued. “And the third thing that I think is the most important is the ‘ties that bind’. Because this museum brings forth people who are no longer in our midst, as well as those who are yet to be born, and they bring us all together with those who are present today. And what a great delight it is.”
