Dubois County Museum hosting Archaeology Day September 12

The Dubois County Museum announced the continuation of its Archaeology Day program.

The program will be held Saturday, September 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the museum, 2704 N. Newton St. (U.S. 231) in Jasper.

Michael Strezewski, professor of anthropology at the University of Southern Indiana, returns to give a presentation titled “Pottery Production in Pioneer-Era Indiana (1815-1825).” The talk will cover the pioneer-era production of redware pottery in Indiana. Redware was the first Euro-American-style pottery made in southern Indiana, largely used for utilitarian household purposes. Excavations and studies of surviving redware vessels offer insight into how the pottery was made and used in early nineteenth-century households.

Local archaeology enthusiast Darrick Haas will also be on hand to share expertise on archaeological finds.
