Dubois County Historical Society hosting presentation on Buffalo Trace

David Drake, of Huntingburg, Indiana, will give a PowerPoint presentation on the Buffalo Trace at the meeting of the Dubois County Historical Society on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

The meeting will be held at the Dubois County Museum, 2704 N. Newton St., Jasper, Indiana.  A buffet dinner will be served, followed by a business meeting, an election of officers and the program.

Drake will present updated maps and pictures focusing on Dubois, Orange and Crawford counties. He will be joined by Steven Stewart, who, along with Drake and others, organized the current Buffalo Trace Preservation Group.

The group aims to celebrate our Buffalo Trace heritage with the general public by locating and preserving remaining sections of the original Trace and other historical sites in the Hoosier National Forest. Plans include an online Arc-GIS story map and a Buffalo Trace Heritage Center in Orange County.

Drake’s 2023 booklet, The Buffalo Trace, will be available for purchase for $10.70. The booklet covers the Trace from the Falls of Ohio at Clarksville to the Wabash at Vincennes with specific detail on Dubois, Pike and Knox counties.

The cost of the meal is $16.  Annual dues of $5 are payable.  For reservations call Mary Ann Hayes 812-482-2847, call Tom Fierst 812-630-8882 orr email mhayes@duboiscountymuseum.org.
