Dubois County Democratic Party hosting “Your Community, Your Say” event

Dubois County Democrats launch Big Tent town hall series in St. Anthony on July 22. Property rights, solar, data centers, property taxes, and more. Free and open to everyone.

St. Anthony–Neighbors across Dubois County are invited to a community town hall on Tuesday, July 22, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the St. Anthony Community Center. It is the first in a series of Big Tent town halls hosted by the Dubois County Democratic Party and focused on the local issues shaping life in southern Indiana.

The evening features a moderated panel on the issues hitting closest to home: property rights, water and land rights, solar development, battery energy storage, data centers, property taxes, zoning, and local growth. Plenty of time is set aside for questions, concerns, and ideas from the audience. Organizers describe the format as a two-way conversation. Residents bring their questions and firsthand experience, and the panel brings research, records, and answers.

The panel is non-partisan, with varied political backgrounds at the same table. Its members come from all walks of life: farmers, landowners, business owners, and issue experts. They do not always agree with each other, and organizers say that is intentional. What they share is deep knowledge of the issues and a willingness to talk about them honestly, in public, with the people those decisions affect.

Behind every topic on the agenda is a larger question organizers want the community to weigh in on: is your government working with you, or against you? The series puts accountability, integrity in office, and real representation front and center, and the microphone belongs to the audience as much as the panel.

Republicans, Independents, Democrats, and folks who do not follow politics at all are welcome and strongly encouraged to attend. The issues on the table affect every household in the county, whatever the sign in the yard says.

“This isn’t a rally and it isn’t a lecture,” said Dennis Tedrow, chair of the Dubois County Democratic Party. “It’s a chance for neighbors to sit down together, ask hard questions, and compare notes on the decisions being made about our land, our water, our taxes, and our communities. Our panelists don’t always agree, and that’s the point. Come make your voice matter again. This tent is big enough for all of Dubois County.]”

Representatives of the Property Rights Alliance will join the panel, along with community members and experts on data center and battery energy storage development. Various candidates for local, statewide, and national office will attend events in the series as schedules allow. Brad Hochgesang, candidate for Indiana State Senate District 48, will be at the July 22 event.

“The people of this county don’t work for the government. It’s supposed to be the other way around,” Hochgesang said. “Ask yourself: is your government working with you, or against you? Either way, come tell us. Accountability, integrity, and real representation start with showing up and listening, and that’s exactly what we’re doing.”

Admission is free. Hot dogs and drinks will be served, with a suggested $5 donation to help cover venue and refreshment costs.
