Dubois County Council meeting notes: December 26, 2013

The Dubois County Council held their last meeting of the calendar year Thursday night and made three appropriations to cover line items that would go into the red in 2014 if not for the action taken.

Also in the meeting, Dubois County Commissioner Larry Vollmer asked the council for a more private setting for County Veteran’s Service Officer, Bob Johnson.

Currently, his office door is just inside of the main Annex door, and those persons who wait in the hall for a meeting with Johnson are able to hear private conversations going on in Johnson’s office.

After discussing and viewing the options, the council offered Johnson the inner office which enters from the county council chambers with the stipulation that a door can be placed between the two offices and the outer office will serve as an entry way only.

Commissioner Vollmer said he would take the idea back to the next commissioners meeting and get an approval to move ahead with the plan.

County Auditor Kathy Hopf announced that the Department of Local Government Finance in Indianapolis has approved the budget for the county.

The county tax rate went up for the year, but only .0005 cents. Last year, the approved county tax rate was .3351, this year the rate is .3356.

The county general fund budget is $9,208,210.00.

Finally the council made their 2014 appointments. They include:

· Martha Wehr reappointed to the 911 Advisory Board

· Joe Seng reappointed to the Alcoholic Beverage Commission

· Barb Matheis to the Area Development Corporation

· Mark Brescher to the Region 15 Board

· Deb Stemle reappointed to the Jasper Library Board for her final term

· Lawrence Perhson and Greg Abell to the Property Tax Board of Appeals

· Greg Kendall to the Solid Waste District Board

· Mitchell Clark to the Tourism Committee

Kendall announced that their next meeting will be on Monday, January 27th at 4:30 p.m. in the Annex council chambers.
