Dubois County communities receive $1.2 for infrastructure improvements, maintenance
Dubois County and Huntingburg were among the 191 communities receiving a share of the $100 million in state matching grants under the Community Crossing Grant program.
Huntingburg was awarded $283,579.60 from the state, and Dubois County was awarded $1 million.
Gov. Mike Braun, Secretary of Transportation and Infrastructure Matt Ubelhor and INDOT Commissioner Lyndsay Quist today joined local officials from across northwest Indiana in Delphi to present the awards.
“When we invest in roads and bridges through these Community Crossings grants, we’re helping communities attract new jobs, support Main Street businesses, and enhance quality of life for Hoosier families,” said Gov. Braun. “I’m grateful for the strong partnerships with our local leaders who are putting these dollars to work building a better Indiana.”
Communities submitted applications during a call for projects in October. Funding for Community Crossings comes from the state’s local road and bridge matching grant fund. The program has provided more than $2 billion for local road improvement projects since its inception in 2016.
“Community Crossings has benefitted nearly every city, town and county in the state of Indiana at least once,” said Secretary Ubelhor. “Projects range from chip and crack sealing to paving to bridge rehabilitation and replacement on local roads.”
Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1 million annually when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations fewer than 55,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive an 80%/20% match, while counties with populations greater than 55,000 and cities and towns with populations greater than 10,000 receive a 50%/50% match.
“Roads that have not been properly maintained can cause damage to vehicles, potentially causing Hoosiers thousands of dollars,” State Senator Daryl Schmitt said. “That’s why I’m glad to see local leaders work with the state to find ways to maintain the roads and bridges throughout Senate District 48. I’d like to thank everyone in local government who find ways to invest taxpayer dollars wisely and keep our neighbors driving on safe roads.”
