Dubois County Clerk’s Office clarifies election process
The Dubois County Clerk’s office issued information highlighting the process and security of the elections in Dubois County.
No Early Results
No votes are tallied before Election Day. No one—absolutely no one—knows how any candidate is performing ahead of time.
Mail-In Ballot Security
Every mail-in ballot is carefully tracked through each step: Application issued, Application received, Ballot issued, Ballot received. Once returned, ballots are securely stored in a locked cabinet with bipartisan oversight. A Republican and a Democrat each hold a key. On Election Day, the cabinet is opened, and the Election Board reviews signatures on the secrecy envelopes. Only then are ballots removed and prepared for counting.
Early Voting Machines
Early voting machines are NOT reviewed or tallied before Election Day. They are securely stored and only processed on Election Day.
Election Day Voting & Closing Procedures
Polls close at 6:00 p.m., but anyone in line at that time will still be allowed to vote. After the final voter has cast their ballot, election workers at each vote center will tally their machines and securely return the results to the courthouse.
How Results Are Reported
Once early voting machines are tallied and processed through the election system, those results are released at 6:00 p.m. or later on Election Night—typically the first results reported to the media.
As Election Day locations complete their work and return to the courthouse, results will continue to be processed and released in updates until all vote centers have reported and totals are complete.
Early voting is over. Regular polls open tomorrow at 6 a.m. and remain open until 6 p.m. Election day sites are listed on the right side of the flyer below.
