The Airport Board said goodbye to a longtime member and supporter at Monday night’s meeting.  Board President Mike Cummins read a resolution honoring Raymie Eckerle for his 27 years of service to the airport, including a stint as Manager.

Eckerle has said it is time for him to back off on some of the commitments that he has been involved in and the Airport Board was one on the list.

“It’s been a good run, there’s been a lot of good changes,” Eckere said. “I’ve worked with a lot of great people over here. My heart will still be over here, I’ve just got to pursue some other things.”

Eckerle is the Street Commissioner for the City of Jasper but views the airport in a different light. “We’re responsible for 110 miles of city streets [in Jasper], but to me this one mile of asphalt over here at Dubois County’s Huntingburg Airport is still the most important piece of asphalt in Dubois County.  It is vital to the success of its communities and surrounding counties.”
