Driver taken to hospital after flipping SUV

A Celestine resident was sent to the hospital after a losing control of her vehicle and rolling it onto its top along State Road 164.

According to authorities, Shannon Evans of Celestine was westbound on State Road 164 E in a 2005 Ford Escape when the SUV went off the right side of the road as she rounded a curve. The SUV came back onto the road and began to spin before it rolled onto its side and ended up on its top.

The SUV then skidded about 500 feet before going off the roadway where it struck a small embankment and rolled into a yard at 1222 E. State Road 164. The SUV stopped on its wheels in the yard facing west.

When deputies arrived, Evans was out of the SUV. She complained of shoulder pain and was evaluated by Celestine first responders before being taken to Memorial Hospital by ambulance.

Deputies said the Ford Escape was a total loss and was towed from the scene by a Uebelhor & Sons wrecker.
