Driver seriously injured when trash truck crashes through barn
Orleans — A Greensburg man was transported to Louisville by helicopter for the injuries he received when the trash truck he was driving crashed through a barn in rural Orange County Friday afternoon.
At about 4:02 p.m., Marty A. Wells, 42, Greensburg, was southbound on State Road 337 when the 2004 International trash truck he was driving left the east side of the road. It continued off the road 462 feet and crashed into a barn at 2727 North State Road 337, Orleans.
Wells was trapped inside the vehicle had to be extricated. He was transported by Air Methods Helicopter to the University of Louisville Hospital for injuries to his face and extremities.
The roadway was wet due to the rain and troopers believe excessive speed for the road conditions did factor into the crash.
State Police was assisted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, the Orleans Police Department, Rural 2 Fire District, Livonia Fire Department, and Orange County EMS.
State Road 337 was closed for nearly two hours.
