Driver killed north of Dale - Dubois County Free Press, Inc.

A crash Thursday evening just north of Dale claimed the life of a driver.

At about 7:18 p.m. CST, a 1994 Subaru Legacy had stopped along the southbound shoulder of U.S. 231 just north of County Road 2050N. When the driver of the Subaru attempted to cross the southbound lanes of US 231 to travel east on CR 2250N, the vehicle pulled into the path of a southbound 2006 Peterbilt Semi-tractor trailer driven by David Wolfkiel, 66, Owensboro.

Wolfkiel attempted to avoid the collision by merging into passing lane but was unable to avoid the crash. The Peterbilt struck the Subaru’s driver’s side at a right angle and pushing it into the median.

The driver of the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wolfkiel had a complaint of pain to a leg but was treated at the scene and released.

The name of the deceased is being withheld until family is notified.

Indiana State Police were assisted at the scene by the Spencer County Sheriff’s Department, Dale and Santa Claus Police Departments, Carter Township Fire Department, Spencer County EMS and Coroner.
