Driver killed in semi-tanker rollover crash

Update: Police have released the name of the driver, Jerome Thomas of Warsaw, Mo. The family has been notified.

The driver of a semi-tanker hauling about 6,000 gallons of milk was killed in a rollover crash north of Jasper Thursday afternoon.

Officials closed down a section of U.S. 231 between County Road 500 North to Haysville at around 2 p.m. after Dubois County Dispatch received notification of the crash. Responding officers found the tanker on its side and the driver entrapped in the semi-tractor near the intersection of Old State Road 45.

The driver was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene by the Dubois County Coroner’s Office.

The roadway remained closed until about 10:30 p.m. as the emergency crews cleared the scene and the milk was transferred to another tanker.

The investigation is ongoing, and the identity of the driver is being withheld pending notification of the family.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Haysville Fire Department, INDOT, Jasper Street Department, Stork’s Towing, and the Dubois County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.
