Driver hits Huntingburg utility pole, arrested on multiple charges
A single-vehicle crash took out Huntingburg utility pole on North Van Buren Street Tuesday evening.
Huntingburg police responded to the crash on Van Buren at about 9:48 p.m. According to police, Drake Neal, 25, of Huntingburg, was northbound on North Van Buren when the 2005 Chevrolet pickup he was driving left the roadway along the 700 block and struck a utility pole, breaking it.
The truck turned into an alleyway where it sideswiped another pole and an air conditioning unit before coming to stop in a ditch.
Police said Drake’s blood alcohol content was .22 percent.
Drake was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, operating a vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance (marijuana), operating a vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment, criminal recklessness, leaving the scene of a crash and reckless driving.
He was booked into the Dubois County Security Center.
Police said the truck was a total loss.
Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services, Indiana State Police, Huntingburg Volunteer Fire Department, Huntingburg Electric Department and a KARS tow truck also assisted.
