Driver arrested for OWI after running on flat tire through yard

Early Sunday morning, the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department arrested Austin E. Bolin, 20, of East Nance Lane, Winslow, after responding to a vehicle running through a yard along County Road 50N in Madison Township.

According to police, Bolin was eastbound in a 2007 Chrysler Town & Country minivan on 50N at about 5:54 a.m. with a flat front passenger tire — deputies observed the marks from the flat tire on the roadway.

As the minivan approached the intersection with 750W, it turned south and for an unknown reason the driver drove into a yard of a residence at 7474 W. 50N. The minivan struck a “for sale” yard sign and then continued through the yard rutting it up. The vehicle turned around in the yard and drove back to 50N at the intersection of 800W before stopping.

Police found the minivan with damage to the front end and no passenger side front tire.

Bolin was taken to Memorial Hospital for a chemical test where he tested positive for THC and his blood alcohol content was .19 percent.

He was charged with operating while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. Estimated damages to the van and yard were about $3,000.

Pike County Sheriff’s Department and a Uebelhor and Sons wrecker assisted at the scene.
