Dr. Rosemary Heredos and Sister Jeana Visel to perform at Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand

On Saturday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m. EST, Rosemary Heredos and Sister Jeana Visel will perform Charity Abounds: Beauty & Christian Love in the Music of St. Hildegard of Bingen at Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, Indiana. The concert is free and open to the public, with a free-will offering for those who want to give their support.

This musical journey will explore the compositions of St. Hildegard of Bingen, doctor of the Church, including her Symphonia (Symphony of the Harmony of Celestial Revelations), and her liturgical drama Ordo Virtutem (Order of the Virtues). St. Hildegard was abbess of a German Benedictine women’s monastery. While the sisters of her community were the original singers of this repertoire, her legacy has inspired generations and continues to offer timely perspectives for the twenty-first century Church.

Dr. Rosemary Heredos is a soprano and scholar specializing in Early Music, with a focus on Gregorian chant. She serves as Lecturer in Sacred Music and Voice at the Saint Meinrad Institute for Sacred Music, where she teaches chant and voice. She holds a doctorate in Historical Performance Practice from Case Western Reserve University and an MA in Ritual Chant and Song from the University of Limerick. An active performer, she sings with Cantoral in Limerick and the Trobár medieval ensemble in Cleveland. A lifelong church musician, she is Director of Music and Liturgy at St. Anselm Church in Ohio, and also teaches at Kent State University, Case Western Reserve University, and Hiram College. Her research centers on medieval chant, notation, and liturgical history.

From Winnebago, IL, Sister Jeana Visel holds a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies and a Master’s degree in Theology/Monastic Studies. She also holds a Doctor of Ministry in Spirituality from Catholic University and has completed icon studies through Hexaemeron Six Days of Creation workshops. Sister Jeana taught high school theology for 5 years, and served as Director of Assessment and Orders Documentarian and Director of the Graduate Theology Program at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology. She’s still at Saint Meinrad as Dean of School of Theology Programs and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Spirituality. She enjoys painting, teaching about icons and other religious art, singing, writing and hiking.

The Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand are grateful to the Verkamp family for establishing the St. Mechtilde of Hackeborn Sacred Music Series Endowment in honor of Sister Mary Aquin and Sister Mary Ann Verkamp.
